My soul thrives on deep processing, creative thinking, storytelling, and making things. My career has been anything but conventional for a data scientist, and I wouldn’t change anything about it. Every step has shaped how I think and approach problems in creative ways.

I started in music production, interning as a teen on label records, graduating from Berklee College of Music’s Music Production & Engineering departnment, and working in some of LA’s finest recording studios. Music taught me the power of creative iteration, collaboration, and deep listening—skills that turned out to be incredibly valuable in software testing and data science.

My passion for breaking down things to make them better (and maybe paying rent…) led me into software quality testing and leadership, where I thrived in skill building, testing process improvement, and leading scrum teams. I worked closely with test engineerss, developers, UX designers, product managers, and executive leadership continuously pushing for higher software quality.

Eventually, my curiosity for the analytics behind our shipped features evolved into a data science career, where I now work closely with executive leaders and data teams to uncover insights that drive real impact. By the end of my tenure at Sonos, I was regularly presenting to our executives, with memorable presentations, leveraging metric frameworks I had built from scratch.

Work History

Sonos (Sept. 2010 - Feb. 2025)

  • Senior Data Scientist (II) – Portfolio Planning

    • Architected the Feature Stickiness framework, developing a custom algorithm to analyze product reach and user engagement patterns. Leveraged dbt macros extensively to streamline implementation and code review process.
    • Delivered data-driven insights to product leadership and executives through compelling data storytelling. These presentations were often leveraged for roadmapping and future resource planning.
    • Pioneered a new approach to dbt-driven datasets, leveraging macros to improve data accessibility and self-service analytics. Designed and optimized metric datasets for better usability and decision-making. Authored runbooks and documentation, enabling teams to scale with dbt effectively.
    • Developed/maintained self updating incremental dbt models, enhancing data efficiency and scalability.
    • Conducted in-depth auditing and validation of raw telemetry and aggregated datasets to ensure accuracy for data science projects. Regularly leveraged testing expertise to identify and resolve data quality issues.
    • Mentored data scientists, analysts, and software testers on data best practices and effective communication, fostering a stronger data-driven culture across the company.
  • Senior Data Scientist (II) – Product Data Team

    • Designed and implemented a Feature Impact framework using changepoint analysis, enabling data-driven assessments of how feature usage affects core company metrics. Originally developed as a locally hosted solution, this was transitioned to later function as a Dataiku application. In the absence of an existing A/B testing framework, this creative approach (including difference-in-differences analysis) allowed leaders to understand how features were performing in retention and engagement in as little as two weeks from initial launch.
    • Conducted feature-specific analyses to evaluate customer reach, user engagement, and overall impact. This was leveraged both for high impact features and customer-facing reliability issues, to gauge which errors were persistent and most impactful.
    • Led data-driven investigations for Sonos legal cases, providing analytical insights and evidence to support casework. Collaborated with Legal teams to ensure compliance with privacy policies, including end-user agreements, GDPR, and CCPA, aligning organizational practices with regulatory requirements.
    • Developed data science solutions for ambiguous business challenges, translating complex datasets into actionable recommendations. Areas of focus included understanding how feature usage drift affects listening time, developing singular statistical comparisons for very disparate features, and quantifying the accuracy of audio dropout telemetry.
    • Diagnosed production data outages and contributed to resolution efforts, ensuring data quality and reliability.
    • Championed data quality best practices, driving improvements in telemetry, validation processes, and analysis standards.
    • Established cross-functional partnerships with engineering, data infrastructure, quality and more to ensure teams had data they could trust and use efficiently.
    • Created project/feature specific interactive Tableau dashboards, which allowed non-technical users insights into their project’s customer impact.
  • Senior Data Scientist (I) – Software Org

    • Served as a subject matter expert in telemetry from mobile applications and hardware stacks, providing cross-team guidance across data, management, engineering, customer experience, marketing and quality teams.
    • Authored technical documentation for telemetry-based datasets to enhance data transparency.
    • Built feature and project-specific dashboards in Interana, delivering real-time product insights.
    • Analyzed voice partnerships with Alexa and Google Assistant, during initial launch and rollout. These analyses were used both to guide development of an in-house voice assistant and prioritize maintenance work with both Amazon and Google.
    • Analyzed feature usage trends and their impact on customer engagement, directly shaping product strategy. Focused on understanding how features influenced users early in their Sonos journey, uncovering key insights that led to long-term strategic workstreams. These insights continue to drive initiatives across the product organization, customer service, and marketing teams.
    • Played a key role in evaluating data visualization tools, influencing dashboarding decisions. Represented Sonos at the Tableau Conference, networking with industry experts and bringing back workflow innovations.
    • Led legal case data analyses and executive-level data requests, ensuring accurate insights.
    • Developed training programs to grow a network of internal Data Champions, which aimed to be a long-term resource for others to develop self-service skills. My areas focused on understanding the data organization in Snowflake, and an intro session on beginner Tableau visualizations.
    • Designed a data analysis ticketing system with structured intake fields, streamlining workflow efficiency. This custom system allowed team leads to more easily intake and prioritize across multiple workstreams.
    • Designed raw telemetry schemas based on product requirements, working closely with engineers, testers and product managers to implement and validate high-quality data. Standardized raw telemetry into structured facts, improving accessibility and usability.
  • Data Analyst / Data Scientist – Software Org, Music Experience

    • Developed pipelines for mobile device model data collection from app stores.
    • Audited product telemetry for data quality and documented processes.
    • Led analyses on app store ratings, application bloat, downloads, and software sunsetting.
